Well got the Specialized Roubaix Expert Triple on Saturday and got in two 17 mile rides (Sun & Mon) glad to be back form the Keys ....now time to focus on preparation for the San Francisco to Salt Lake trip in early June.

Rode today to the bench and back.....stopping to hit the red trails briefly. Total of about 12 miles and a lot of fun.

Placed an order for a new road bike today....
a Specialized Roubaix Expert I can hardly wait for it to get here they say about 2 weeks

Went to Coyote Corner with John & Mike then did the vortex red trail and played on the Wall and other jumps etc. Total of 20 miles all together.

Rode 75 miles on the Harley today ....then went in woods on the Mt bike. I did a little over 12.5 miles and hit John brown and the vortex loop---- also Twister Bunny and Dr Ruth

Today I rode to the bench & back averaged 12.18 mph. Kind of slippery out with the leaves that have come down in the last week or so.

It was nice to back on the bike ....I enjoy skiing but the bike is where it is at for me.

Utah Ski Trip Feb 25th to March 4th

Well it took a strange turn three days before our scheduled departure; my wife had a serious bicycle accident caused by a truck cutting her As it was, she went down at over 20 mph on the shoulder, in the gravel. Fortunately she was not seriously hurt; she has a shoulder separation and a bad shiner on her right eye. Of course it goes without saying multiple bruises and a colorful array of cuts and road rash.

She is tough though and she decided to come with me to Park City. Our drive to Orlando for the flight went smooth and we are on our way to Phoenix to catch a connecting flight to Salt Lake.

Saturday Feb 25th
Arrived in Salt Lake….. that is the two of us and all our luggage except for my ski’s. L. Did well on the rental car…..got upgraded to a Mazda 5 which is kind of like a small minivan. Bottom line is the skis can fit in it with no problem. The Radisson is nice. Just after getting to our room they came by with complementary hot chocolate and warm cookies. (Nice Touch). Got a call that Southwest found my ski’s and they should be here tonight. J -- I will feel better when I touch them.

Tomorrow I am planning on skiing Deer Valley.

Sunday Feb 26, 2006-- Deer Valley

The snow was very nice – the reputation for good grooming was spot on. I did several runs including to the top of Bald Mt (9,400ft) – Nice trails there Nabob and Solid Muldoon prior to hooking up with the Mountain Tour. I did the intermediate one primarily because I am not very good with bumps and most of the blacks were bumped up. The tour was good once they divided the group into advanced blue skiers and slow blue skiers. It was complementary and gave you a good feel for how to navigate the lift system.

My wife is doing better and met me for lunch at the Snow Park Lodge. Good food and good service with moderate prices.

After lunch I went to Little Baldy (7950ft) I liked the trail Mountaineer… it had a nice pitch and the snow was perfect. From there I worked my way over to Empire Canyon (9570ft). Hit some nice blues Orion, Supreme, Solace. Over all a good day of skiing J .

We had dinner at the Loco Lizard Cantina. Good food and service. Decent prices and plenty to eat.

Tomorrow off to Park City Mountain Resort.

Monday Feb 27th

PMCR was very very nice; I liked it better than Deer Valley both for skiing terrain and scenery. I skied from 9pm -4 pm. The terrain suited me well, I figured out that by Utah standards I like double blues and groomed black runs. I did cover the mountain from Thanes Lift on the right side looking up all the way over to McConkey’s on left and all points in between.

Met Gus from Flagstaff and skied with him form 10:30 to closing time

All in all Great snow and great trails great day

Tuesday Feb 28th
RAIN ....took my rest day today ....drove to see Little Cottonwood and Big Cottonwood Canyons and the 4 ski areas there

March 1, 2006 The Canyons

Well they had 3” of fresh down low and easily over the boot many places up high. Even as a first timer there I was able to be in untracked stuff till about 11:20 ( I headed up the Gondola when it opened at 8:30am. Skied till just before 4pm.

It is a LONG walk from bus stop to gondola …..not that I had trouble with that just that is a POOR design. The lifts are a bit confusing to a first timer there. That said I had a very good day there. Covered the whole mountain except for the double blacks (they are above my ability)

Had dinner tonight at Park City Pizza Co. in Kimball Jct. – Near the Wendy’s. Had Calzone and an anti-pasta salad. Yummy Food and plenty of it to split between my wife & I. Prices good too. J

Tomorrow I am driving to Snowbasin.

March 2nd Snowbasin

The drive to Snowbasin was just over an hour (taking our time)
WOW!!!! What a nice lodge. Skied the area to the skiers right (Strawberry ) in the AM then the middle and John Paul in the afternoon. The Snow was great and the myriad of ways down for a strong intermediate were amazing. This place is laid out nice and the off piste stuff was delightful for my ability.

Friday March 3, 2004

Skied PMCR again and once again very pleased. The blown in snow in McConkey’s was very soft and although it was windy had a great day.

Saturday March 4th
…..Flight Home ----all went well but Southwest is no 0 -2 on losing my skis. They need to improve on this one it is frustrating.

I will return to Utah……very nice place to ski and I only scratched the surface.

nice & easy touring pace about 16.5 average-- did ride some tempo along baseline for about 2.5 miles at about 26mph --- felt good ---this was aftre about 64 miles

today was a rolling rest day....did all the blues and yellows on both sides of the road.....easy ride never out of the middle ring.... averaged an easy 10 mph for the 13 miles I covered-- just relaxing

Today I went to the bridge and back and set a new record --- 1 hour 37 minutes and 40 seconds..... average speed of 12.3mph --- a sweet 20 mile ride

Well back from NY and a few days of skiing. I got in 3 full days of skiing at Gore Mt. Snow was very good the first two days and OK the last one.

Rode yesterday..... put on 14.7 miles at 11.8 mph. Went to the bench and back then hit twister.

Had a good ride with John yesterday. Ended up with 15.7 miles ( not bad for a weekday ride - racing daylight) averaged 11.4mph
Did the ride to the bench and then twister. John wanted to hurt a little so we went to the bench easy and then hit it fast 14-17 mph on the way back.

He is getting ready for the ididaride and I am leaving for skiing (short trip) tomorrow.

Nice long ride this afternoon with neighbor John. Went to theLandbridge then on to 49th avenue and then on towards 484. Ended up with 30 miles and an average spped of 11.3 mph. It was cold about 48 at the start and then slowly falling into the low 40's - with leg & toe warmers and a longsleeve smartwool jersey with a vest --- I felt fine.

Had a good ride today.....rode with Tom & Scuba Steve. Very fast ride to the bench and a bunch of other blue & yellow trails. We covered about 15 miles and averaged over 13.5 mph. In the woods that is flying. Nice day -- sunny and about 70 when starting and dropped until we finished by then it was about 60

Today went on an off road ride with my oldest son and my neighbor, John. We did an out and back to the bench and back then did the red loop. Averaged 11.4 mph. John took a pretty good spill but his helmet took the worst of it - he is fine. Nice and warm today mid 70's

Had a nice 40 mile road ride today. There were four of us today and the route was to the southwest into a 10 mph wind but the trip home was fast and fun. A nice ride to close out 2005.

Went just over 21 miles today - out and back to the land bridge. Had a problem with my rear shock, I am hoping that it was just low on air. Pumped it up with fork pump we will see if it holds. Nice sunny day with temps in the mid 50's

Had a nice ride today rode a nice combo of yellow , blue and red trails for just over 16 miles. Met the photo editor of Dirt Rag Magazine who I had met on the OMBA web site. He was doing a photo essay about our trails for the magazine. He was very friendly. The new red trails are riding into good shape and each time I am able to ride another section clean. Weather was sunny and low 50's

Today was a nice diversion from all the riding I have been doing in the woods. Went on a road ride with the 4 of us and Don. We were slightly limited on time so we only rode for about 2 hours. A very casual ride with much of it two up. We covered just over 30 miles. Nice way to spend part of the day on Christmas Eve - with family & a friend.

Today was a good ride. Rode with my son who is home from college. We headed to the Bench then over to the freeride park. They (IMBA) just opened a new red loop--- it took about 35 minutes to do it. It was challenging but will get easier as it gets ridden in. Got in about 15 miles with temps in the low 60's.

Whew for Florida it was chilly riding today. About 53 when I started then dropped steadily to mid 40's while I was out. I got out a bit earlier than normal today (3:30) and got in about 17 miles before darkness won out. Headed out to the Landbridge that crosses I-75. Did not make it all the way there but it was fun.

The IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association) work at the Santo's Trails is progressing. At least that is what they would say. I do not think it is totally progress as many of the trails I have riden for years are being closed. They are building some new ones which may become my favorites in the future but the choices of looping different loops is being greatly reduced. It is like learning all over again... gone is the homefield advantage.

Today.... it is raining here in Florida and only low 50's so no riding today. Yesterday I did get in about 32 miles on the road.

Got the laptop set with the background as the top of Donner Pass. This is serving as my motivation to lose a few pounds. In June of 2005 we plan to cycle from San Francisco to Salt Lake. This route will take us over Donner Pass hence the motivation not to pull any extra weight up the mountain passes. The day after Donner pass is the rak over Mount Rose (over 8,000 feet in elevation)
